GIVING AT DEPARTURE BAY
DBBC is a registered non-profit society that depends totally on the generosity of God’s people for financial support and 100’s of hours of volunteer labor every week!
Our understanding of giving (stewardship) is that everything we have comes from God and as such, we are charged with managing (stewarding) it to the glory of God. In this sense of the word, our stewardship goes far beyond the amount of money we give away, but it involves our entire approach to finances.
We believe the Bible has much to say about a godly work ethic, how we earn our income, wisdom principles that govern our saving and investing, practical advice that helps us decide how to spend the money God sends our way, as well as a truck-load of caution in regards to the danger money represents. We live in culture that is “out of control” when it comes to money matters: Unrestrained consumerism and easy access to debt have created a generational mindset that “I can have it all, and I can have it NOW!” Unfortunately for many people, this mindset leads NOT to freedom, but to slavery.
The Bible actually has more to say about money than any other topic, except God Himself! Someone has said that money is the greatest “rival god” for the North American Christian.
GENEROUS GIVING – TRUSTING GOD
The principles of generous giving are woven through the Bible from cover to cover. The fundamental reasons a person of faith gives away their financial resources, is because God has promised to show Himself faithful to us, and commands us to be generous with all we have. In fact, generosity is one of the quickest and easiest ways we have to reflect the image of God that is stamped on each human! We serve a generous God, and we are never more like Him, than when we are graciously and generously sharing our lives, our time, our money & our energy with others! 
GIVING IS A TEST AND A TRUST!
Giving away “hard-earned cash” can be a very difficult thing for many people, but we are asked to put our God to the test – seeing that He can and will and does provide everything we need – as we faithfully honor Him with our “first and best.” (Malachi 3:6-12; Philippians 4:19; Hebrews 13:5-6; Matthew 6:33 and many more!) By giving to God I show that I trust Him….it all came from His hand…there is MORE where this came from! And if He chose to, He could take it all away! I am just a steward of His many gifts!
